Some Car Photography

In Photos on May 13, 2012 by Matt Thomas

I’m not really well know for shooting still objects, let alone massive metal ones called cars…….however when a friend asked me to shoot some photos of his Toyota Corolla AE86 how could I say no. A few of you might have seen this driving around Gloucester but for those of you who haven’t below are some snaps showing off those rather colourful wheels…

Last Weekend in London – Photos

In Photos on May 6, 2012 by Matt Thomas

Well last weekend I was in London with weather that is totally different to the weather we’ve had this weekend. I guess the photo/skate gods didn’t want me to try to snap any photos whilst I was down, but not to worry as the good old Southbank was the only dry (just about) place in London to skate/shoot. Although to be fair it was more of a mess around session that trying any “real” tricks down the 7 stair or on the blocks.

Just showing how “not so dry” Southbank was with some long powerslides…….flatspot heaven!

Another from Churchdown Skatepark…..

In Photos on March 21, 2012 by Matt Thomas

I seem to be stuck or either lost at this park as more and more of my photos are coming from here. Not a bad thing, although I do miss the good old street photos…..it’s just becoming harder to find the angles to make this park look different. Well here is something “different” I tried yesterday (one of a few shots I got however saving some others for my book!) which seems to work although not too sure. Let us know what you think as I’m always open to feedback and comments

Cheers

Churchdown Night Skate Sessions

In Photos on March 11, 2012 by Matt Thomas

With the days now getting longer and the night brighter, it means it’s getting closer to summer. In some ways this is a good thing and hopefully we should get some better weather, however over at Churchdown skatepark it means even more little kids running madness at the park late into the evenings. So now the only really way to skate and shoot photos is at night! Only bad thing is that the park doesn’t have floodlights (yet??) but not to worry as who needs that when you’ve got flash power to play around with.

Enjoy!

Few Shots from London Last Weekend

In Photos on March 1, 2012 by Matt Thomas

Well it’s been a while since I’ve shot film on my Bronica, but what better way to see if I’ve still got it than to bring it along to a weekend trip to London and shoot some skateboarding with Jake Watt.

I was a little bit worried about this being a 100% film trip as they are so many things that could go wrong when shooting skateboarding on film. Timing the trick is the biggest worry as you can’t see if it’s timed right or not and also making sure that the metering is spot on as well. So that goes for metering the scene as well as making sure the flashes are metered correctly.

Nevertheless I still went ahead with the idea and shot the whole trip on just 120. Below are two shots, more were taken but saving some for the book I’m working on (and trust me, they all turned out just right as well)

Churchdown Skatepark Take II

In Photos on January 8, 2012 by Matt Thomas

It’s not every day I let someone else hold my D700, or infact any part of my photography stuff. However today I was feeling a little bit on the kind side………plus I wanted to try and get this trick caught on camera. James Greenshields (who’s normally feeling the force of my flashes) was lucky enough to hold and snap and quick little photo down at Churchdown of me.

Makes a change from never having photos of me I guess!! Also Maverick, the people who built Churchdown, were kind enough to post it on their site here.

My Dog at Christmas Time..

In Photos on December 26, 2011 by Matt Thomas

Well seeing as though it was 25th December yesterday I thought I’d try to capture the moment on camera, however that didn’t really plan out. So instead I captured a nice little photo of my dog when he wasn’t busy wrecking his presents to shreds!!

The Road Trip Photo I Forgot About………

In Photos on December 22, 2011 by Matt Thomas

For some reason I totally forgot about this photo I took when I was on the Road Trip back in August. Not sure why, but well better late than never to be fair! Also a little video to show how close Jimbo was to hitting me on the landing, very close call!!

Churchdown’s New Skatepark Gets a Seeing To….

In Photos on December 9, 2011 by Matt Thomas

…in the form of Adam Hutchinson just trying every trick off the wave into the bank.

This park has taken quite a while to get together and now it’s finally open and what a park it is! It’s got quite a beast of a bowl with a massive deep end, then you’ve got the little kicker gap and the wave into bank, which will make this park one of the best for those summer days. Seeing as summer isn’t for a while you’d better warm up and fly through the air, just like Adam below.

Many thanks to Maverick Skateparks for sorting out this build.

Birmingham German Markets

In Photos on December 4, 2011 by Matt Thomas

Well on Saturday I went over to Birmingham to take some photos of the German markets they have got going on there at the moment. It was such a busy event, not much room to move around or even get close to some of the stalls. However after fighting through the crowds I was able to get some shots. Enjoy
